TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their
own.

Nikos Kazantzakis

Nikos Kazantzakis’s idea of teaching is something that I have always remembered and used as guide to lead and teach my students. I translate Kazantzakis’ idea of a great teaching as the ability to transform raw information into more interesting, relevant, practical and digestible information for our students and a way in which to encourage them to apply, utilize and experiment with their understanding throughout their lives.

As I imagine my classroom to be a facilitator of the student learning experience, I focus my teaching on several ideas. First, I create an engaging learning atmosphere. Second, I am accessible and available to students. Third, I emphasize the practicality, relevance and currency of the course. Fourth, I encourage students’ ingenuity, creativity and innovativeness. Fifth, I enhance students’ business perspective through networking.
